National Treasure: Edge of History
If you’re anything like me, you’ve been waiting the last 15 years for National Treasure 3: Page 47. Unfortunately, it looks like we still have to keep waiting. In the meantime you should check out the new series National Treasure: Edge of History on Disney+.
I was hooked by this show pretty quickly. The series follows Jess (Lisette Olivera), a DACA recipient, who loves puzzles and history, and dreams of one day joining the FBI. While working at a storage facility, Jess is asked by her boss to track down the owner of one of the lockers. She discovers it belongs to Peter Sadusky (Harvey Keitel), the lead FBI agent from the movies. Sandusky notices that Jess has a necklace that is connected to the Daughters of the Plumed Serpent, a group of women who were dedicated to protecting the Pan-American treasure from the Spanish Inquisition and gives her a letter addressed to his grandson.
Jess and her friends are soon confronted by Billie (Catherine Zeta-Jones), a woman with suspicious intentions who wants to find the treasure. As a result, Jess sets out with her friends and Liam, Sandusky’s grandson, to find the treasure. Along the way we are treated to heists at Graceland and the Louisiana Governor’s mansions, an appearance from Riley Poole (Justin Bartha) and possible confirmation of an upcoming third movie, and Easter eggs from the movies, including the panel from the Resolute Desk, the pipe from the Charlotte, and Ben Franklin’s glasses.
As the series progresses Jess learns more about her parents and their role in the treasure hunt prior to their deaths. Jess, and we as the audience, also must decide who can and cannot be trusted among her friends, the FBI, and Billie.
Before I give away the whole show, I highly recommend you watch it. It feels very fresh and original, but has just enough of the movies to feel nostalgic. Make sure to keep an eye out for the new Charlotte in Ben and Abigail’s life!
